Dr. Arun Kumar Barik

Senior Advisor, Low-Carbon Sustainable Agriculture

Dr. Arun Kumar Barik is a distinguished agronomist and former Head of the Department of Agronomy and Ex-Dean at Visva-Bharati’s Institute of Agriculture, Sriniketan. With over three decades of teaching and research experience, he specializes in Integrated Nutrient Management, cropping systems, and forage crops, with more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and extensive mentoring of postgraduate and doctoral scholars.

At SM-PACT India Foundation, Dr. Barik provides strategic and technical leadership on low-carbon farming, soil fertility enhancement, and regenerative agricultural systems. He guides program design on composting, agroforestry, mixed cropping, and low-till practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve soil organic carbon, and lower input costs for small and marginal farmers. His expertise strengthens SM-PACT’s carbon baselines, MRV systems, and transition pathways from baseline to Net Zero, ensuring scientifically robust, scalable, and livelihood-positive climate action.
